Realism

Realism is a word that is tossed around often in roleplaying circles, but it may be hard for the beginner to understand. Obviously, the world of Harry Potter and the magic within it is not real (or so it is claimed.) So what do we mean by the word realism?

The concept of Realism is, to put it simply, roleplaying what could actually happen to a character if the situation was real. This means that character must act in light of what their abilities and experiences would allow. Many times, new players try to create characters that are unrealistically powerful, or beautiful, or intelligent, or all of the above (think superheros). Experienced roleplayers, however, realize that this is a trap that quickly causes everyone around the character to lose interest.

To help avoid this, we have created a rigorous system called Character Generation (Chargen for short) that will help members create a character that is believable and enjoyable, both for them and for others around them. Our magic system is also set up to help beginners understand what magic is possible and what is beyond their abilities.

The Admin and Mods are dedicated to creating a world that is as realistic as possible, by creating guidelines to help ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone, and by being available for questions, and by providing strong examples of quality realistic roleplaying.
