House Sorting

Characters joining Hogwarts in the Wizard's Wardrobe will be sorted into one of the four Houses based on their biography, personality and Chargen application. Many sites place students based on the member's preference or because of a need for members in a particular House. We feel this is both unrealistic and unnecessary.

New members must complete a detailed Chargen application before joining any of our sites. The member must also write a short biography for their character. These processes will create a well-rounded character. The Admin, through the IC Sorting Hat, will then place the character in the House that best suits them. As in the books, House decisions are final and will not be reconsidered. To do this creates instability and confusion in our sites.

Each House, as in the books, will have unique characteristics and opportunities for its members. Each House will have special activities open to only their members. The activities will be planned based on the interests of active PCs to ensure that each House is an enjoyable experience. We expect many of our members will have multiple PCs that are in various Houses, because of the distinctive opportunities of each House.

Unlike the HP series, major plot roles will not be restricted to one or two Houses. Roles will be evenly distributed among all the Houses, because the four Houses are all important and should contribute equally to the ongoing story of our world.

While we encourage characters to interact with other Houses, students should mainly interact with others in their own House. Students will be given access to their respective House areas (Dorms, Commons, etc.). Students may not "visit" other House areas without proper IC reason and Admin/Moderator approval. This includes visiting other Houses' Commons or Dorms and eating at other Houses' Dining Tables.
