House Points

House Points may be gained or lost by a character's actions. As a general rule, OOC actions will not gain or lose House Points, although the Admin reserve the right to determine this in individual circumstances (See also Discipline guidelines).

Faculty and staff will keep track of the points on a scoreboard. After roleplaying a scene where points have been gained or lost, the Faculty/Staff member will post the deduction/addition on the scoreboard. Students may view these boards but may not post.

Adding or Subtracting Points
Teachers and staff may give points to students as rewards or take points away as punishments for a student's IC actions. Points should be given/taken in increments of 5 (5, 10, 15, etc.). The number of points should reflect the importance of the deed or the severity of the crime.

Although points should be given or taken regularly, they should not be given or taken for trivial matters such as daily homework or attendance. Exceptions may occur on occasion at the teacher's discretion. If in doubt, Admin should be consulted.

Teachers should balance the giving and taking of points, as dictated by the character. As a general rule, teachers should give out more points than they take away.

IC favoritism or prejudice for either a particular House or student may be allowed if it is in line with the character. The Admin should be consulted if a player feels this is the case with their character.

If a teacher also roleplays a student, he or she may not give or take points from their own character unless the character is involved in a situation where all the students gain or lose points.

Teachers may not give or take away more than 25 points from any one student at any given time without Admin approval. For any given situation, no more that 50 points should be given or taken without Admin approval. (i.e. five students +10 points apiece, two students -25 points apiece).

Any time points are given/taken, the situation should first be roleplayed between the teacher and student(s). In the scene, the number of points gained or lost must be specifically stated, so all involved can see.

After roleplaying a point scene, the teacher should immediately post the gain/loss on the scoreboard. The following format should be used.

Contesting Points
In general, a teacher's decision will stand. The situation has occurred ICly and the points will be given or taken as the teacher has dictated. The Admin select teachers carefully, and will generally support their decision.

If a member feels a teacher has given or taken points unfairly, they should first go to that teacher OOCly and discuss the matter. If the situation is not resolved to the student's satisfaction, he or she may come (also OOCly) to the Admin and explain why they feel the points were not justified.

If the Admin feel the teacher was right, they will inform the student of this, and the scene will stay as is. If the Admin feel the student is right, they will discuss the matter with the teacher in question and determine a suitable resolution. The Admin's say is final in any situation.

If a resolution is needed, it may come in two forms. On very rare occasions, the scene may be struck from the boards, as if it never happened. More often, the resolution will be roleplayed between the student and teacher with another teacher intervening if necessary.

Note:
A player must follow this OOC procedure to contest points. IC contesting will not be considered unless the player has first gone through the OOC process, and the Admin have agreed.

This does not mean that a student cannot ICly complain to other students or to faculty about a certain decision. Such IC complaints are acceptable (even encouraged), but they will not be considered as an official complaint.
