Student Guidelines

Use of Magic
In order to provide a realistic magical environment, Hogwarts students must demonstrate a minimum proficiency before using a spell in day-to-day roleplaying. Once minimum proficiency is gained, a student may then use rudimentary forms of that spell in regular roleplay. With time and use, students will gain eventual mastery of particular spells and schools of magic and may combine them to perform more advanced magic.

Basic proficiency of a spell is gained by roleplaying the learning of that spell in a controlled environment. The classroom will be the primary place of learning. Once a spell has been learned under a teacher's direction, any students in attendance may use that spell in regular roleplay.

In addition, students are encouraged to study on their own to learn magic not specifically taught in the classrooms. To gain basic proficiency in a spell learned on one's own, the student or students must write a short fanfic telling how they learned the spell. This fanfic must be submitted to the Admin/Mods for approval. Approval will be given to fanfic which is realistic, thorough and beneficial to both the character(s) and the site. Once a fanfic has been approved, the student(s) may post it in their journal and use the spell in daily roleplay.

Relationships
Relationships at Hogwars should be realisticly portrayed. While many of our members are old enough to have relationships, it is important to remember that the characters being portrayed are much younger. The following approximate guidelines should be followed.

Between Term Activities
Student's may stay at Hogwart's over Christmas and Easter breaks with Admin approval. This will generally be given for students with special IC needs. Students will not be allowed to stay at Hogwart's over summer break.

The Admin will strive to generate activities that would occur in the wizarding world for students to participate in over breaks. Boards will also be available where students may create their own activities during breaks as well.

Players will be expected to play by the same OOC guidelines of respecting other players between terms as they would in the school session.
